What's Doing?

So, what's with the name "The Body?"

I have Gavin Dawson to thank for this name.  I am an exercise enthusiast, and I have competed in six natural body building competitions over the last 10 years.  One of the casualties of competitions is the tanning and shaving.  For some reason, the staff at the fan thinks a guy with a bare arms, chest, and legs might be a bit feminine so Gavin dubbed me "The Body."  I make no apologies for wanting to be healthy when I reach my golden years assuming I don't die in a freak accident before then.

A typical day for me would include drinking a gallon of water, counting all of the calories I consume, and maintaining my exercise regimen.  Before my radio days, I worked as a nutritionist and exercise specialist.  The hardest part of my day is trying to time my trips to the bathroom between my 20/20 updates.

Mothers Turn to the Chronic for Relaxation

I was so inspired by Paris Hilton and the Happy Meal filled with weed that I decided to continue my "Focus on Pot" portion of my web page.  A survey conducted by, http://www.chikii.com/, found that a number of moms smoke pot in order to relax.  While my mom could justify drug use after dealing with my brother and I, she would never sit down and roll a joint.  This is incredible!  No wonder kids have little problem using drugs.  They get the idea from their parents.

 NBA Playoffs Lack Excitement

No offense to the Four teams remaining in the NBA Playoffs, but there seems to be a lack of intrigue in the remaining match ups.  Why is this?  I think it's a combination of two things.  First, I think there is a lack of star-power.  The top four players remaining from each team are probably Tim Duncan, Carlos Boozer, Richard Hamilton, and Lebron James.  While these players are all great, none of them generate the excitement of a Steve Nash, Baron Davis, or Kobe Bryant.  At the end of a day, the NBA is a star-driven league.  Unless you are a fan of one of the final four teams, there isn't enough excitement to grab an audience.  The Spurs didn't even sell out game one of the Western Final.  Second, NBA Finals are a foregone conclusion.  Is there any doubt who is going to be playing in the NBA Finals?  Not really!  Unless there is a major surprise, we are headed for a Spurs and Pistons rematch.  While I believe they are the two best teams in the league, the Pistons and Spurs don't play an exciting style of basketball.  It's tough to go from the Warriors and Suns to the Spurs and Pistons.

A New Kind of Happy Meal

This story is awesome. A family in Ottawa, Illinois stopped by a local McDonalds restaurant for a nice meal, and wound up getting a whole lot more. A little girl reached into her Happy Meal in search of her surprise toy, but pulled out a bag of weed and a pipe. According to the report, a 17-year-old employee stashed his drugs into the Happy Meal box, but forgot about it and handed to the family at the drive thru window.

Paris Burning Tree?

Paris Hilton smoking cannabis? According to reports, Hilton was photographed while smoking a joint at last month's Coachella Music Festival. Not a good scenario for someone preparing to spend some time in the hole! Check it out!

NFL Looks to Shorten the NFL Draft

The NFL is considering options that would shorten the NFL Draft. This is a good idea that would make one of the best days of the year even better.

A Bad Way to Die!

This story is graphic in nature, so consider yourself warned.  The reason I enjoy dropping these stories on my site is because I am fascinated with death.  Why you might ask?  Because it's one of the universal laws we all face regardless of who we are or where we come from.  And, none of us know when it's going to be our time to go!  Also, there are so many different ways a person can die.  For some reason, the unknown aspect of death has always driven my curiosity.  With that said, it's time to get on with this tragedy.  A women was mauled to death by a tiger in British Columbia, Canada, at an exotic animal farm while children were present.  Add this to the list of ways you don't want to die.  Check it out!

Sudden Fizzle for the Warriors!

The best story of the NBA Playoffs so far has been the Golden State Warriors.  They became the first 8-seed to knock off a 1-seed in a seven-game series, and appeared to be headed to the conference finals.  However, the Utah Jazz had different things in mind.  After two last-second losses in Salt Lake City, the Warriors returned to Oracle Arena on Friday night.  Golden State was on fire and won game 3 by 20 points, but Utah bounced back last night with an impressive 115-101 win in game 4.  The Jazz now lead the series 3-1, and can close the series out tomorrow night with a game 5 victory.  The Warriors went cold in the fourth quarter and surrendered 40 points to the Jazz.  Jason Richardson went 1 for 6 from downtown, and Carlos Boozer continued his dominance with 34 points.  The Warriors are capable of winning on the road, but I question if they will have the right frame of mind after a poor performance in game 4.

Seniors getting high in Canada!

Some of you might find this article interesting.  Senior citizens are the fastest growing population group of drug users in Canada.  The drug of choice of choice for seniors is weed, but researchers say there is some illicit drug use.  Wow!  Can you imagine your grandma sparking up?  This story is disturbing.

Seattle Cops Getting Lap Dances?

This story is very interesting.  The Seattle Police Department has been doing an excellent job of patrolling the city's strip clubs.  How well?  According to seattlepi.com, the undercover cops have been allowing physical touch in order to find out if the the dancers would be willing to accept money for sexual favors.  Is it really necessary for cops to get dry-humped in order to see if these ladies are being decent or not?  I say not.

The Bloody Reality of Dog Fighting!

The recent report about Falcons Quarterback, Michael Vick, and his alleged dog-fighting ring in his Virginia residence got me thinking.  What exactly is dog fighting?  And, how are dogs trained to become vicious killers?  On the surface, I understood the basic concept of dog-fighting with the understanding that two dogs fight to the death while the dog's owner and other spectators place bets on which dog they think will win.  However, I didn't realize the brutal nature of the activity completely.  I thought I would research in order to gain a better understanding before passing judgement on Vick and others who participate in dog fights.

Where are dog fights held?  The dog Pit is small confined area surrounded by plywood or some other material to enclose the dogs.  The space is small, so the dogs have no where to retreat.  This setup encourages conflict between the two "competitors."  How do dogs become fighters?  In this process, the owner will starve and beat the dog and then place it in the pit with a "bait" animal (usually a rabbit, cat, or a small dog) and let the dog go to work.  At this time, the dog will tear into the "bait" animal due to the stress and abuse it has been under.  After undergoing this process several times, the dog is ready to fight.

During the actual fight, the two dogs will inflict serious injuries on one another until one of them retreats or dies.  Dogs usually suffer broken bones, loss of blood, cuts, torn cartilage, and often death during the course of the fight.  Moreover, the losing dog is usually beaten by his owner due to anger resulting from betting losses.  Sometime the owner will kill and dispose of the losing dog in order to find a more worthy competitor.

As you can see, dog-fighting is far from innocent.  In fact, you could make an argument that those who participate in these types of activities are troubled.  Dog-fighting has become very popular with gang members as an alternative form of gambling.  Keep in mind, Vick's residence was in nice neighborhood populated with a number of kids.  Can you imagine what would happen if one of his starved and beaten dogs go loose?

I'm not an animal-rights activist, but I have had several pets in my life-time.  In my opinion, dog-fighting is hanus and reprehensible.  If Vick is found guilty of participating in an illegal dog-fighting ring, then he should be suspended by the NFL for at least 4-8 games.  This type of activity is wrong and needs to be taken seriously by the NFL.  It's hard to suspend one of the most elite players in the game, but it would send the right message.  Playing quarterback in the NFL comes with great responsibility, and Vick has to be willing to accept that.

Paris Hopes to Terminate her Prison Sentence!

Just when you think the story couldn't get any more crazy, Paris Hilton pulls out one of the all-time stops.  She has called upon California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to give her a pardon for her most recent arrest for driving with a suspended license.  The Judge on her case handed down a 45-day jail-sentence.  A website has been established where Hilton fans can sign a petition encouraging the Governor to pardon Paris.  This is classic!

Jazz Playing Up-Tempo!

On Monday night, the Utah Jazz showed they too can run the floor.  Utah outscored Golden State by nine points in the final period to take game one of their Western Conference Semifinal series, 116-112.  The Jazz scored 63 points in the first half, and still trailed the Warriors by 3 at half time.  Second-year point guard, Deron Williams led Utah with 31 points including 12 from beyond the arc.  Williams seemed to thrive in the up-tempo environment.  Boozer proved to be a major problem for the Warriors.  He grabbed 20 rebounds, and the Jazz pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.  Gordon Giricek, Matt Harpring, and Mehmet Okur all made a contribution, and the Jazz scratched out of tough win.  Remember, the Jazz played on only one-day of rest following Saturday's game seven in Houston.  I was really impressed with Williams.  He was dominant at Illinois, and he showed his brilliance last night.  He showed no fear in attacking the Warriors defense.  The Warriors played well enough to win the game.  Al Harrington broke out of his funk, and both Matt Barnes and Baron Davis played well.  In the end, too many second chance points for the Jazz.  This series is only going to get better.  I love watching fast-paced NBA action.

Maybe the Chicago Bulls should watch some tape from the Miami series in order to remember who they are.  The Detroit Pistons have dominated the Bulls in the first two games of their Eastern Conference Semifinal winning last night by 21.  The Bulls have struggled to hit their shots in the first two games while the Pistons have been on fire.  I believe the Bulls will be fine when they get home.  I think Chicago was surprised by Detroit's intensity in the first two games, so it will take some home-cooking to get their offense in gear.  However, if they stumble out of the gates in game 3, this series may be over sooner than later.  Next to the Spurs, the Pistons are the best road team in the league.  Billups and Hamilton provide consistent performance and leadership.  Detroit is for real.

Bus Driver Caught with his Pants Down!

I have no words to describe this troubling story, but it's something I thought you might want to see.  According to the story, Jacob S. Nasser, 68, was arrested for Public Lewdness along with several other charges when authorities found him masturbating with his pants down on the bus.  If that weren't enough, Nasser was also in possession of a controlled substance.  Appraently, there were children on a different bus who saw Nasser while he was pleasing himself.  I'm assuming the parents with the involved students might be a bit upset with the unfortunate situation.  Nasser, is from Yonkers, NY.  Maybe they should change the name to Yankers in honor of his love for the children.

Mother Hilton Comes to the Rescue!

Apparently Paris Hilton isn't the only one who needs a healthy dose of reality.  Kathy Hilton, mother of Paris, thinks that her daughter's recent arrest for driving with a suspended license is a waste of tax dollars.  And, she added that her daughter is being mistreated due to her fame.  This is hilarious!  The Hilton's are one of the last families that need to worry about being mistreated.  Paris is in trouble because she decided to drink and drive, and then to drive with a suspended license.  Reality check time for the Hilton Family

Concern in Seattle?

According to reports, Seahawks running back, Shaun Alexander, has decided not to undergo an X-ray on his left foot until the end of mini-camp this week.  Apparently, the bone he broke last year has not fully mended to date.  While Alexander was able to return and play at a high-level after the injury, there is concern that this may be a lingering injury.  The Seahawks are very talented on offense, but Alexander is the one player they cannot not afford to lose.  The Seahawks rely on Alexander to produce in all-aspects of the offense.  If there is an issue with his foot, the teams needs to get it handled immediately.

Prison Time for Paris!

Paris Hilton is heading to prison.  A judge sentenced Hilton to 45-days in jail for driving with a suspended license.  Hilton's license was suspended due to a DUI arrest a few months back.  Hilton pleaded ignorance claiming she didn't know she was driving with a suspended license.  Hilton claimed she was mis-advised by her publicist on the terms of her prior arrest.  The judge disagreed with her explanation.

NBA Round 2!

Golden State vs Utah

It will be very interesting to see how the Warriors respond after completing the biggest upset in playoff history disposing of the Dallas Mavericks in six games.  Utah is fresh off a seven-game series against Houston, and will surely be tired with one day off before game one tips off.  Golden State had all the match up advantages against Dallas, but will face a more difficult with Utah.  The Jazz are the best rebounding team in the league, and Carlos Boozer is playing the best basketball of his career right now.  Boozer will be able to stay on the floor when the Warriors go small, and will attack inside on the offensive end.  The Warriors will likely double team Boozer most of the time with Al Harrington likely getting the defensive assignment.  It will be important for Harrington to play well after struggling against Dallas.  Golden State will need his defense inside, but they can't afford to lose output on the offensive end.  Mehmet Okur is tough because he is a good defender, but he can play away from the basket allowing the middle to open up for Boozer.  Biedrins, Barnes, and Harrington will be important for the Warriors defense.  The point guard match up will be great.  Deron Williams has played great in his second year, and he has the size and strength to defend Baron Davis.  However, Davis will present problems with his quickness.  Williams must play well.  If not, look for Derek Fisher to draw Davis on the defensive end.  Fisher is smart and strong.  He defended Tracy McGrady for seven games and did a commendable job.  This series will be very interesting.  Utah is going to be tough, but I believe Golden State will continue to ride their wave of emotion into the conference finals.

Prediction- Warriors in Six

Bulls vs Pistons

The Bulls are close to taking over the Eastern Conference, but the throne still belongs to the Pistons.  Detroit was the best team in the East from start to finish this year, and they have the experience on the roster to make sure they don't have a let down like last year.  This series is a battle of the guards.  For Detroit, one of the best tandems in the entire NBA with Billups and Hamilton.  Both move well without the ball, defend, and shoot a high percentage.  The Bulls counter with Hinrich and Gordon.  Both can score the ball, and they too shot a high percentage from the field.  Gordon has no problems taking over the game when his team needs a life on the offensive end.  However, the Pistons have the defenders to handle him.  In the Middle, the Bulls have former Piston Ben Wallace.  He is the best rebounder and defender in the league.  He will make life tough Rasheed Wallace and Chris Webber.  PJ Brown also provides experience and toughness for Chicago inside.  I look for Rasheed Wallace to play well.  He is healthy this year, and he is still one of the toughest players on the block.  The Bulls are close, but the Pistons will get the job done here.

Prediction- Pistons in six

Nets vs Cavs

This series is going to be interesting.  New Jersey dominated Toronto in the first round with Jason Kidd and Vince Carter playing at a high-level.  More importantly, Richard Jefferson is healthy and back to creating instant offense.  The Nets can execute in the half court, and they know how to play up tempo when the opportunities come.  Cleveland had a bye in the first round with Washington.  The Cavs got the sweep, so they should be well-rested for the second round.  Lebron James will be the key here.  He is the only player on the court that the Nets have no answer for.  And, he will likely need to carry the offense when the game slows down.  Drew Gooden will need to score in order to take some pressure off James.  Eric Snow and Larry Hughes are nice players, but they are not great scorers.  New Jersey has saved their best basketball for the right time of the year.  I look for the Nets to upset the Cavs.  I just don't think Lebron James will get enough support from his teammates.

Prediction- Nets in six

NBA Playoffs Round 2!

Spurs vs Suns

This is a series with a contrast in styles.  The Suns are the highest scoring team in the league that likes to run the floor and play a wide-open brand of basketball.  The Spurs, are the more traditional half-court team that likes to rely on defense and rebounding to win games.  The Spurs have had no problem with the Suns the last couple of years, but this year Phoenix appears to be primed for their title run.  We will continue to look at this series after each game but I think the key for Phoenix will be how well they defend Duncan in the post.  Amare Stoudemire should be able to hold his own, which would reduce the amount of double teams the Suns would have to throw at him.  In reality, the guard play ultimately will be the key.  Steve Nash is great, and Tony Parker does a great job of facilitating the offense for his team.  The bench features to stars for both teams.  The Suns have Leandro Barbosa, and the Spurs counter with Manu Ginobili.  In the end, I just think San Antonio has too much defense.  The Suns will not be able to play a half-court series with the Spurs.  San Antonio is the most well-coached team in the league, and their roster is filled with smart veterans. This series should be fantastic.

Prediction- Spurs in Six

Pair of 6's in the NBA

The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz face elimination tonight as they both prepare for a game a game six.

Houston vs Utah- This game like the previous five in the series is likely to be ugly.  The home team has won all five in the series, and the road team has struggled at times to score the basketball.  Utah blew an opportunity in game five.  They kept the game close, but they were unable to hit shots down the stretch.  Once again, Yao and McGrady combined for nearly 50 points, and the Rockets were able to connect from downtown.  This is a home series, and I don't see this game any different.  Look for the Jazz to win big and force a game seven.

Dallas vs Golden State- This is the game of the 2007 Playoffs.  You do not want to miss this one!  The Warriors are still probably trying to figure out what happened to them in game five.  The Mavs closed game five out on a 15-0 run forcing a game six.  Golden State has been the aggressor for the entire series, and they played great in games 3 and 4 at home.  The Warriors will need to get off to a good start in order to erase the memory of their game five collapse.  The Mavs are going to be tough to beat, but I believe Baron Davis will prove to be too much.  Look for the Warriors to complete the upset and win game six!

Naked Shopper at Macy's Gets Bagged!

16-year-old Ashley Sims helped New York Authorities arrest a naked 60-year-old man, Dennis Green, at a Macy's department Store in Manhattan after he burst into her dressing room while she was trying on a dress.  This is disturbing on many levels, but apparently the man had been hanging out inside the dressing room for quite some time.  Police found cigarette butts and trash inside the dressing room where Green was apprehended.  Next time I go to the store, I'm going to make sure I lock my dressing room.

NBA Playoffs

The Drama between Golden State and Dallas continued last night is a thrilling comeback win for the Mavs. Golden State trailed by 21 in the first half before storming back. The Warriors cut the lead to 7 by half time, and built their lead to nine at 112-103 with just over three minutes to play. That was the last of the Warriors offense. Two 3-pointers by Dirk Nowitzki and a Devin Harris three-point play tied the game at 112, and the Mavs went on to score the final six points of the game. There were a couple of bad calls inside of a minute to play which really hurt Golden State, but ultimately they didn't finish in the end. Dirk Nowitzki played well with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Game six tomorrow night in Oakland. How much momentum will this win give the Mavs going into game six? My guess is the Mavs will play well, but the real question is how will this tough loss affect Golden State. I didn't expect them to have a shot to win game five in Dallas, but to lose a nine point lead with three minutes to go may have a negative effect. My guess is that this Warrior team won't let it linger. This group is tough mentally, and they will have a huge emotional edge at home. The drama is going to be great. This has the potential to be one of the best games of the 2007 NBA Playoffs, so make sure you don't miss it. Too bad no one on the East Coast will see the game with the 7:30pm start time.

Baron Davis is a "Warrior!"

The Dallas vs Golden State first round series is a great example of why I love the NBA Playoffs.  The Warriors are trying to become the first eight-seed to knock off a one-seed in the first round of a seven-game series.  Usually a seven-game series will expose a weaker team for what they really are, and in this series we are learning that we can't judge Golden State by their near .500 record.  The Warriors are showing they have the heart of a champion, and Baron Davis is proving to be the ultimate beast.  He torched the Mavs for 33 again last night, and he made a number of big plays down the stretch.  Unlike Friday night, Golden State had to comeback on several occassions.  There must have been five to six times during the game when I thought they were done, but they kept fighting.  Aside from two 3's late, Dirk Nowitzki looked lost once again.  Josh Howard continues to be the most consistent player for the Mavs in the series, but so far it has not been enough.  Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes, and Jason Richardson always seem to be in the right place at the right time.   The Warriors are a pleasure to watch on the court.  They constantly attack and run the court.  By far, it has been the best series in the first round.  However, if the Warriors fail to finsish off the Mavs, no one will remember how great they played in the first four games.  I have a feeling this Warrior team will finish the job.  Game 5 in Dallas will be tough, but they will not lose a game 6 in front of their tremendous home crowd.

NBA Playoffs

We are almost at the halfway point of the first-round of the NBA Playoffs, and there are some interesting developments taking place.  Let's take a look inside.

Lakers vs Suns- The Lakers were presumed dead after suffering a humiliating loss to the Suns in game 2, and facing an 0-2 deficit going back home to LA.  However, the Lakers got 18 points and 6 rebounds from Kwame Brown, and Kobe dropped 45 making this a series again.  LA will need to win Sunday afternoon in order to give themselves a legitimate shot at winning the series, but the win should give them confidence.  Brown was impressive, but their defense on the screen and roll was outstanding.

Warriors vs Mavericks- I predicted the Mavs in 7, but it looks my prediction is in jeopardy.  The Warriors destroyed Dallas in game 3 last night leading by double digits for most of the game.  All five starters for the Warriors scored in double figures, and Baron Davis was simply awesome!  The Mavs look lost on the court right now.  Nowitzki played alright in game 3, but they have been out of sync in this series.  The Warriors are faster and more athletic, but they are playing with a hunger that I haven't seen is quite some time.  If Golden State wins game 4 on Sunday night, they are going to win this series.

Miami vs Chicago- The Bulls are doing what I thought they would do here, I just didn't think Chicago would sweep Miami.  This series is simple to break down.  Miami is old, slow, and beat up.  The Heat didn't commit early in the season to repeating.  Dwayne Wade is this team's life-line, but he is still suffering from his shoulder injury towards the end of the season.  This team is done, and Shaq better think long and hard about coming back next year.  If he does, he needs to get in better shape.  The Daddy is not playing well, and he looks slow against the aggressive Bulls defense.

Denver vs San Antonio- This series is tied 1-1 with game 3 tonight in Denver.  It will be interesting to see if the Nuggets can handle the pressure they are going to face from the Spurs.  San Antonio wins on the road because they play great defense.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs win both games in the Mile High City, but they need to figure out how they are going to defend Anthony.  Denver needs to play good defense, and make sure they out hustle the Spurs.  Energy will be a key for the Nuggets in games 3 and 4.

Utah vs Houston- This series is too ugly to analyze.  Only four Rockets scored points in game 3 for an impressive 67 points.  I still like Houston, but this series is hard to watch.

Cleveland vs Washington- The Wiz are a lottery team without Arenas and Butler.

Detroit vs Orlando- The Pistons are poised to sweep a team for the first time since 1990.  This will help the veteran team get rested up before the next round.

Rosie has a New Point of View!

Rosie O'Donnell announced today she is leaving "The View."  I don't know about all of you, but this is a major disappointment to me.  Actually, this is a good thing.  One less idiot on television will do us all some good.  I just get irritated at when people like Rosie have a comment for everything even if they don't have the facts to support it.  The only bad side to this announcement is the possibility that the feud between her and Donald Trump might receive less coverage.

Best Numerical Draft Picks of All-Time!

I came across an interesting article on Yahoo Sports today, and I thought it was very interesting considering the Draft is this weekend.  The article breaks down the best picks of all time in the first round in relation to where the player was taken.  John Elway was selected as the best ever player to be taken at number one and so on.  Check it out!

Round One, Early Reaction

First slate of games in round one of the NBA Playoffs are in the books, and some of the NBA's best are in early trouble.  The Dallas Mavericks finished the year with the league's best record securing home-court advantage, and managed to lose it in sixty-minutes to their former coach and nemesis, Don Nelson.  Baron Davis finished with a near triple-double, 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists.  Golden State outscored Dallas by six-points in the third and fourth quarters and won game one, 97-85.  More surprising is the fact that Nowitzki finished with only 14 points.  I'm no coach, but even I know the Mavs have to get more out of the MVP if they hope to advance.  This win as no fluke.  The warriors are finally healthy, and they are playing as well as anyone.  Golden State is loaded with guys that know how to play the game.  Davis has always been one of the most talented players in the league, but injuries have always seemed to keep him down.  He abused Jason Terry and Devin Harris last night.  Jason Richardson is athletic, and Stephen Jackson is a tough player who can score the basketball.  I belive the Mavs are in legitimate trouble.

The Denver Nuggets caused numerous problems for the Spurs on Sunday, and walked away with game one after a 95-89 win.  One interesting observation, the Nuggets and Warriors came into the playoffs on fire and both came away with game one wins on the road.  Iverson and Anthony are a tough match up for anyone.  Iverson scored 31, and the Spurs offense sputtered in the final stanza.  Why are the Spurs not in trouble?  Because they are the best defensive team in the league.  San Antonio will right the ship in game 2, and they know how to win on the road better than anyone.  The Spurs will advance, but they have made this series much longer than they wanted.

I'm not sure how the Lakers managed to score only 10 points in the final quarter, but I do know that the Suns are thankful to survive game one with a 95-87 win over the Lakers.  Kobe Bryant had 28 first half points, but was limited to just 11 points in the second half.  Leandro Barbosa, just named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year, scored 26 points helping the Suns overcome a 9-point half time deficit.  The Lakers did everything right for 36 minutes, and will need to find a way to finish in the fourth quarter.  Lakers Head Coach, Phil Jackson said he was encouraged by his his team's play.  I would agree with that assessment, but it's difficult to watch LA on offense when the role players are standing around watching Kobe at the end of games.  For the Lakers to have a shot, they will need to find a way to win game 2.

Cleveland vs Washington- With Arenas and Butler, this series would be a must-see.  Without them, this is the most unwatchful series in the first round.  The Cavs screwed around for two quarters and still won by 15.

The Miami Heat are broke down.  Even if Chicago finds a way past the first round, this team is too old and beaten up to excel.  The Bulls are younger, faster, and more hungry than the defending champs.  Ben Wallace was awesome, and Ben Gordon matched Wade down the stretch.  I look for Chicago to win game 2.

Baldwin Apologizes

What's better than another half-hearted Hollywood apology? Not much!  Alec Baldwin issued a pubic Statement last week after his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, released a phone conversation between Baldwin and his young daughter in which Baldwin called her a "pig."  Basinger and Baldwin are going through a bitter divorce, and the tape release was the latest effort in the Basinger smear campaign.  Baldwin has had visitation rights revoked by a judge pending a hearing.  All I can say is we are all human, and we are definitely prone to saying dumb things at the most inopportune time.  I just think it's funny that Hollywood stars are always releasing public apologies for their personal mishaps.  If Baldwin wasn't so outspoken, I don't think this would have gotten near the publicity it did.  Relationships gone bad usually bring out the worst in people.  I'm guessing his daughter will have no self esteem issues after this.  My dad nearly killed me several times for poor decisions, but he never called me a zit-riddled dork or a loser.

Good Intentions, Bad Idea!

Singer and song writer, Sheryl Crow, is currently on her Stop Global Warming College Tour, and she has been kind enough to keep a blog throughout her journey.  One of the ideas she came up with recently to help assist in Global Warming efforts is a call to Americans to use less toilet paper.  In fact, Crow, thinks it's possible to get by on one sheet, or 2-3 sheets if it's really needed.  I'm not here to debate the use of toilet paper and its relationship to Global Warming, but I'm certain I have never got by with just one sheet of toilet paper during a trip to the bathroom.  In fact, I didn't even know you could tear toilet paper into separate sheets.  I normally just make a ball of paper big enough to ensure my hands don't come in contact with anything unsavory.  When I drop a deuce, I'm lucky if I don't have to use the entire roll.  Could you imagine trying to wipe with one sheet?  How would you prevent your hands from getting messy?  No offense to anyone, but I'm going to use as much toilet paper necessary to clean myself thoroughly.

NBA Playoff Predictions

Western Conference

(1) Dallas vs (8) Golden State

This series will not lack excitement. These teams remind me of the mid-80's. Both team are loaded with talent, and they know how to score the basketball at an accelerated rate. Due to injuries and a mid-season slump, most basketball fans aren't aware of how talented the Warriors truly are. Baron Davis and Jason Richardson are the leaders with newcomers, Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington providing toughness and a presence inside. Monta Ellis provides nice offensive punch, and Pietrus along with Biedrins off the bench give Golden State plenty of options.

Dallas has been the best team in the league all season finishing with the 8th best record in NBA history. This team has been hungry ever since they collapsed in the Finals against Miami. Dirk Nowitzki has been awesome, and Jason Terry has established himself as a solid scoring option next to Dirk. The key for the Mavs is Josh Howard. Howard is their all-purpose player providing scoring and defense. Devin Harris and Jerry Stackhouse have excelled in their roles off the bench. This team has grown into one of the best defensive teams in the league.

There is a lot of intrigued here due to the poor relationship that exists between Don Nelson and Mark Cuban, but the Mavericks are just too tough. Look for the Warriors to play well, but the Mavs will advance.

Prediciton- Mavs in six

(2) Phoenix vs (7) LA Lakers

This is must see television. I will watch every game in the series. These two teams don't like each other, and the tension between Kobe Bryant and Raja Bell adds spice to the series. The Lakers were seconds away from eliminating the Suns last year before Tim Thomas drained a 3, and forced a game 7 in Phoenix. Lakers Head Coach, Phil Jackson, must find a way to get his role players some confidence if they are to have any hopes of winning this series. Last year, LA had success inside with Kwame Brown and Lamar Odom and were able to exploit the Suns inside. However, that was without Amare Stoudamire. Turiaf, Odom, and Brown must play well for Laker success. Kobe Bryant will be fine. He will get his regardless of who is guarding him. I think Maurice Evans is a key for LA in the series. He provides some scoring and explosiveness off the bench. Look for Bryant to assist his guys by facilitating the offense early in games.

The Suns are led by two-time MVP, Steve Nash. Nash has elevated all of his teammates by getting them the ball in all the right places. Marion and Stoudamire are great scorers, and everyone on the team can shoot the basketball. If the Suns shoot a high percentage throughout the series, the Lakers don't stand a chance. Leandro Barbosa is the key Sun off the bench. He is one of the fastest players in the league, and allows Nash to stay fresh during games. Raja Bell will draw the assignment of defending Kobe. It will be interesting to see if Bell can keep his scoring up while expending energy defending Bryant.

The Suns should win the series, but I think the series will go the distance.

Prediction- Suns in Seven

(3) San Antonio vs (6) Denver

This series is interesting because the Nuggets have one of the best tandems in the NBA with Iverson and Anthony. However, the Spurs are the best defensive team in the league and they're smart. The Spurs are primed for a title run, and they have dominated the Denver Nuggets as of late. The Nuggets are not disciplined enough to beat a team as seasoned as the Spurs. The only real advantage Denver has is Melo. With that said, Melo will have to get off against one of the best defenders in the game, Bruce Bowen. This series isn't nearly as close as you first might think.

Prediction- Spurs in five

(4) Houston vs (5) Utah

These two teams are evenly matched. The Jazz have reason for concern due to their late season struggles. AK-47 has been injured, and Deron Williams has suffered from a foot injury. However, this Jazz team plays just the way Jerry Sloan wants them to. They rebound and play tough defense all night. The Jazz will have to get solid play from Okur and Boozer because Yao Ming is going to be a tough match up. The big difference here is T-Mac. McGrady should be able to score points when the Jazz try to slow down the tempo.

I think this series will be tight in each game. The Jazz are tough, but the Rockets have the ultimate advantage in Yao and McGrady. Both teams can defend, so I give the advantage to the team with the best scoring threats.

Prediction- Rockets in seven

Eastern Conference

(1) Detroit vs (8) Orlando

What can you say here? The Pistons are clearly the best team in the East right now. Billupps and Hamilton are a nice duo in the back court, and Chris Weber has helped replace the loss of Ben Wallace. The Pistons should be able to shut down the Magic for long stretches while scoring on the offensive end. Orlando is not a good defensive team, and this is going to cause them problems. Dwight Howard must have a great series creating a strong inside presence. If not, the Pistons will sweep.

Prediction- Pistons in four

(2) Cleveland vs (7) Washington

No Gilbert Arenas or Caron Butler? The Washington Generals have a better shot here than do the Wizards. Cavs can put it on cruise control!

Prediction- Cavs in four

(3) Toronto vs (6) New Jersey

The Raptors are the best unknown team in the league. The Raptors are led by Andrea Bargnani and a group of great young players. Remember Chris Bosh? He was the player taken behind Melo and Lebron. Bosh has soldified himself as a go-to-guy in the league, and he has the roll players to assist him. Jorge Garbajosa, Anthony Parker, and veteran, Morris Peterson provide nice scoring punch for a team that knows how to run the floor. The Raptors can score points in bunches, and should be considered as a legitimate threat. The only question here is youth.

New Jersey comes in with a ton of playoff experience. Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, and Vince Carter are a difficult trio to deal with. Kidd and Carter are both a triple-double waiting to happen. The Raptors are the better team, and I belive they can advance to the Eastern final, but this will be a tough test.

Prediction- Raptors in seven

(4) Miami vs (5) Chicago

This series should be a good one. The Bulls applied a lot of pressure to the Heat in the first round last year, and I look for more of the same here. The Heat took the first two months of the season off, and then suffered through a rash of injuries. Shaq missed the first few months of the year, and Dwayne Wade just returned from a shoulder separation. Miami is one of the best teams when healthy, but I question if they will be able to flip the switch now that the second season is here. This team may lack the chemistry and hunger from last year. More importantly, Dwayne Wade may not be able to carry the team on his back this year.

The Bulls are led by their back court of Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon. The Bulls are playing good defensively, and Ben Gordon has provided the toughness they lacked last year. Even PJ Brown gives the Bulls some toughness needed inside to deal with Haslem and Shaq. The Heat should find a way to pull this one out, but I think the Heat will be rusty in this series. Look for Chicago to surprise.

Prediction- Bulls in seven

NBA Playoffs, First Look

Thank goodness the Lakers managed to win a road game, and secure the second seed in the West. First, the rematch with Phoenix has plenty of intrigued. The Lakers pushed the Suns to the brink last year, and they have a at least a shot to beat Phoenix. If the Lakers played Dallas, they wouldn't even have a prayer. LA has it's problems, but they match up well inside with the Suns and should be able to exploit the interior. No question the Suns are the better team, but Kobe Bryant has the ability to carry his team for a game or two on the road. Besides, who doesn't want to see Raja Bell and Kobe Bryant go at it? Should be fun!

The Chicago Bulls are the biggest losers after last night. They lost at New Jersey, and in return they fall all the way down to 5th and draw the defending champs on the road. I know Miami is beaten up, but they have the savvy needed to defeat the young and hungry Bulls. Shaq has played well over the last month, and Dwayne Wade should be fine for the playoffs. Someone better remind the Heat that now is the time they have to start giving an effort. They took a few months off during the season, and it almost cost them home-court in the first round. Dwayne Wade and Ben Gordon should put on a show at the guard position!

The Biggest winner is the Cleveland Cavaliers.  They got win number 50 and own the two seed.  The Cavs get a rematch with the Washington Wizards this year, but this time it will be without Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas.  Cleveland is not the best team in the East, but they have the ability to advance to the conference finals.  The Cavs should fare well in the two-hole!

Playoff predictions coming tomorrow!
